Expanding to Meet Community Needs
Investing in Wood River Health
At Wood River Health, growth is guided by a simple goal: making sure every member of our community has access to high quality, compassionate care. As demand continues to increase across Washington County and southeastern Connecticut, we are investing in spaces, systems, and services that allow us to serve more people safely and effectively.
Funds raised through Wood River Health’s Capital Campaigns strengthen our ability to deliver essential programs and services. These investments support clinical care, improve access, and create welcoming environments for patients of all backgrounds and abilities. Donors who contribute $1,000 or more are recognized through meaningful naming opportunities that reflect their partnership in advancing community health.
Our current Capital Campaigns represent urgent priorities that respond directly to community need. Each project is designed to improve patient experience, increase capacity, and ensure compliance with safety and accessibility standards.
Hope Valley Waiting Room Expansion
Wood River Health is experiencing significant growth in patient volume. This increase is driven by expanded Express Care services, rising demand for dental and behavioral health care, and our role as a Designated Collaborating Organization for Gateway Healthcare’s Certified Community Behavioral Health Clinic program.
Our existing waiting room in Hope Valley has reached its capacity. Patients and families can experience congestion, longer wait times, and limited seating. This environment can be especially challenging for individuals with mobility needs, chronic conditions, or sensory sensitivities.
The Hope Valley Waiting Room Expansion will transform this important entry point to care. The project will double seating capacity to reduce crowding and improve comfort. A redesigned layout will separate patient flow between medical, dental, and behavioral health services, helping patients move more easily through their visit. Safety improvements will include clearer navigation, improved check-in areas, and better visibility for staff.
Accessibility and equity are central to this work. The space will include patient-of-size compliant seating, room for mobility devices, and design features that support individuals with disabilities. These improvements will create a welcoming, inclusive environment where all patients feel respected and supported.
The total cost of the Hope Valley Waiting Room Expansion is estimated between $1.3 and $1.5 million. To date, $860,000 has been committed by public and private partners. Additional support is needed to bring this project to completion.
