Medication‑Assisted Treatment (MAT)

If you are struggling with a substance use issue or disorder, a medication‑assisted treatment (MAT) program can support your recovery. MAT is one of the most effective treatments for opioid and alcohol use disorders and helps reduce cravings and manage withdrawal symptoms.

This MAT program provides comprehensive coordinated care through a partnership between two respected health care organizations in southern New England. Gateway Healthcare, Rhode Island’s largest nonprofit behavioral health organization for treatment intervention and prevention, partners with Wood River Health, which has served Washington County Rhode Island and southeastern Connecticut since 1976. Together, we help individuals work toward their recovery goals.

How the MAT Program Works

The MAT program combines medication counseling and behavioral health therapies. This approach addresses both the physical and emotional effects of substance use by helping to stabilize chemical imbalances in the body.

Your Care Team

Your care team provides counseling support education and medication tailored to your specific needs. They work with you throughout your treatment, monitor your progress and support your recovery every step of the way.
