Recovery can be defined as “a process of change through which individuals improve their health and wellness, live a self-directed life, and strive to reach their full potential” (Witkiewitz et al., 2020). Such a process can take time, commitment, and require support to be sustainable. Here at Wood River Health, we strive to start the conversation and support those interested in starting their recovery journey from substance use conditions.
Starting the Conversation
While there is increasing awareness around substance use disorders, overall, it is seldom openly spoken about. This can make starting the conversation stressful. As a routine practice, medical providers screen and encourage discussion around substance use and dependence—there is no judgement here. Just as one would seek medical care for an injured knee, you must first acknowledge that the injury occurred and decide to seek help. For many, this is the step that changes the trajectory of their life.
Behavioral Health Support
At Wood River Health we have an expertly trained behavioral health team that is here to support those embarking on the journey to recovery. We offer solo counseling, group counseling, and have the resources to steer you in the right direction.
Medication Support
In addition to behavioral health support our nurses and medical providers are trained in medication assisted treatment. This may include suboxone for patients struggling with opiate use disorders or naltrexone (or vivitrol) for those struggling with alcohol use disorders. Making an appointment with our medical team will be the best way to tailor a treatment plan that is safe and beneficial for each individual patient.
Community Resource Support
For those who would benefit from assistance in obtaining health insurance, maneuvering the healthcare system, and all things access to necessities we have an entire team dedicated to supporting your needs.
Your Journey to Recovery
If you or someone you love is struggling with substance use, I offer this: you are not alone, so please do not deal with this alone. There are many factors that contribute to these complex situations, many of which are that of pure human nature and physiology. So, I challenge you to call us to make an appointment as a new patient, with your PCP, or in our express care to start the conversation on your journey to recovery—we’ll be here for you when you’re ready.
